Alongside his studies in violin, Pete is also a virtuoso
mandolin player, taking the instrument beyond its more
traditional roots in Mediterranean folk music into other
styles an in exciting new directions. Pete does, of course,
tear up the fretboard in Italian, Greek and Jewish folk
music, and his interpretation of the theme from “The
Godfather” is a favourite at all the Italian weddings he
plays!
Pete has followed the lead of pioneers such as David Grisman
and Tiny Moore in using the mandolin as a lead instrument in
jazz and swing music, and he also loves to re-interpret
classical pieces with the instrument, breathing new life
into old violin standards.
Pete is actively involved in developing the mandolin into
new musical areas, and in particular loves to use a 5-string
solid-body electric mandolin (the Mandocaster) with
guitar-style amplification to apply the instrument to all
manner of jazz, blues and rock styles.
